Velum is an independent press devoted to literature that lives behind the veil.

We publish writers who want you to know their work — not their biography, brand, platform, or personal mythology.

For most of modern publishing, the book was the thing. The author’s name mattered, but the machinery around the author didn’t. Over time that changed. Writers became brands, and the industry began asking authors for audiences, platforms, personalities, and marketable lives.

The work slowly became secondary to the person who produced it. Velum exists to reverse that order.

We publish anonymous authors so that the writing can stand on its own. No bios. No headshots. No carefully engineered personal narrative to explain how to read the book. Just the work. Readers are invited to encounter the text directly — the way literature functioned for most of its history.

Some writers will eventually reveal themselves. Some won’t. That decision belongs to them, not to the market. Our only interest is the work.
